Our Beginnings And The Future...
'Our love should not be just words and talk, it must be true love which shows itself in action.'
-1 John 3:18
Habitat for Humanity in Newton County was founded in 1987 as HFH Newton/Morgan Area to serve both Newton and Morgan counties. Its purpose was to build affordable homes for those living in substandard housing.
Because of the success of simultaneous building projects in both counties, it was decided to expand into two independent affiliates. In September, 1998, Morgan County Habitat became a sister affiliate of Habitat for Humanity in Newton County. These changes in our affiliate's structure and area of service brought fresh opportunities as well as new challenges.
HFH in Newton County has continued to grow under the guidance of a dedicated volunteer Board of Directors. With the help of community, churches, and volunteers, it has now provided homes for nine families.
HFH Newton is currently in the process of building its eleventh home. It is fortunate to have acquired five adjacent lots in the Green Acres Subdivision.
HFH Newton's goals are to increase awareness of the organization, educate the community about the need for decent housing, and be able to build five houses a year.
By working in partnership with God and community, HFH Newton is able to provide decent housing in which people can live and grow into all that God intended.
HFH Newton is always seeking individuals to join us in our projects, our board and our committees. If you are looking for the rewarding experience of working in partnership with those in need of decent housing, - whether on our board, one of our committees or as a construction volunteer - it's easy to get involved with Newton County Habitat for Humanity.
